On Tuesday 2/22/2011 around noon my wife and I found great views of several common redpolls today at Delaware State Park near the parking lot at the Frisbee Golf course near the lake shore. They were very cooperative and landed in the parking lot and tree near the car on arrival and in the tree beside us while viewing the waterfowl on the lake. Much of the lake is frozen with a long strip of open water in the center. Serveal hundred Canada geese and ring billed gulls were present as well as some waterfowl. Mallards 50, black Ducks 15, Widgeon 1, Hooded Merganser 1, Redhead 1. After we arrived home my wife surprised a Screech Owl in our nest box while filling the feeders. We heard this owl calling last week and I blieve it may be nesting there. This is designed as a wood duck nest box which housed flickers that last two years. At least it isn't going to waste.
