It was a beautiful day to be birding, light winds and mostly sunny, with an upper temperature of nearly 50 degrees. The ponds were still all frozen over - No open water anywhere at Killdeer Plains this weekend. The following birds were observed: Snow Buntings - 15 (Excellent Looks - Just East of Harpster at golf course) Horned Larks - 300 to 400 Bald Eagles - 4 Tree Sparrows - 25 Robins - 15 Northern Shrike - 1 (Excellent Looks by All Present) - Township Road 108 West Side of Road South of the Sportsman's Center) Short-eared Owls - 3 (Excellent Looks - One perched in tree at 4PM) Red-Headed Woodpecker Starlings (Several Hundred - Got tired of seeing them) Cardinals - 8 Bluebirds - 20 Northern Harriers - 5 Kestrels - 8 Rough-legged Hawks (25+) - (Many excellent views of these hawks) Northern Flicker -1 American Robins - 20 Canada Geese - 200+ (Many were observed on the Olentangy River South of Delaware) Turkey Vulture - 1 American Crows - 20 Red-Tailed Hawks - 12 Mourning Doves - 30+ Brown Thrasher - 1 Dark-eyed Juncos - 6 Titmouse - 2 4 Bald Eagle Nests were observed (1 nest had an adult standing on the nest) - East of the Ranger Station) One Brown Weasel (No feathers, no beak, no wings - and an excellent view of it up by the road on TH 108) Rick Stelzer ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
