Howdy All! Sorry for the late post. These are sighting updates for yesterday, Tuesday, 3/8/2011. Royal Tern - No sighting. But I am now fully into the Royal Tern ID camp for this bird after seeing and reading information from Terns of the World (a big thank you to Bill Whan and especially Doreene Linzell). A few of us were camped out on the dam near the spillway for about 3 1/2 hours with no luck on the tern. We then worked our way North stopping at all the pull offs and boat ramps along Sunbury Rd all the way up to Galena (where we even walked out the boardwalk for a look). Nothing. The bird may be gone. Common Raven - Yes! Being lucky is good. I have now tried for this bird 3 times in the last 6 days and I've seen it all 3 times. Success has come in early afternoon (between 1pm and 4pm). Tuesday's first raven sighting occurred on Reed Rd near the farm on the South side of the road with 3 silos. The raven was being harassed by a single crow. The raven flew South toward College Hill Rd. We observed the raven again near the intersection of College Hill Rd and Hostetler Rd. Here we got to watch a spectacular display. The raven was giving chase to a red-tailed hawk. This is a very cool bird to watch. -Greg Miller Sugarcreek, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
