Hi Mary, You can get a since of when Baltimore Orioles (and other species) are migrating by checking out the data others have submitted into eBird. Here are the steps I took to do just that: 1. Go to http://ebird.org/ 2. Click the "View and Explore Data" tab. 3. Click "Bar Charts" 4. Scroll to, then click "Ohio" then click the "Entire Region" button on the right. Click "Continue" at the bottom of the page. 5. Data for all Ohio species comes up here, but just scroll down to "Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula)" and have a look! It appears the first records (in eBird) start coming in during the 2nd week of April. Since not everyone reports observations to eBird, the very first arrivals might come in a little earlier, so I'd start looking for early Baltimore Orioles during the week or two before then. 6. For more details, you can click on the name "Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula)" which brings up a map with the same barchart across the top. Clicking on a month name in the barchart reduces the points on the map to only data from that month. You can then explore the other tabs, other species, or click on the mapped points to see the details of who saw what where and when. :) Good birding, Paul Hurtado ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
