The Mountwood Bird Club of Parkersburg, WV visited Seneca Lake in Noble County on Thursday. Those participating were Neal & Barb Hohman, Jeannine Ellison, Eula Elliott, Jon Benedetti, Pat Collins and Jeanette & Dick Esker. The sun was out but it was a bit cold and windy. In spite of the recent rain, the water level in the lake was low. We did find a good variety of waterfowl. The highlight was watching six immature eagles playfully flying about. Here is the list for the day for the lake and the environs (51 species): Canada Goose Wood Duck American Wigeon Mallard Northern Shoveler Northern Pintail Ring-necked Duck Scaup species Common Goldeneye Hooded Merganser Common Merganser Red-breasted Merganser Pied-billed Grebe Horned Grebe Double-crested Cormorant Turkey Vulture Bald Eagle Northern Harrier Cooper's Hawk Red-shouldered Hawk Red-tailed Hawk American Kestrel American Coot Killdeer Ring-billed Gull Rock Pigeon Mourning Dove Belted Kingfisher Red-bellied Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Northern Flicker Pileated Woodpecker Eastern Phoebe Blue jay American Crow Carolina Chickadee Tufted Titmouse Carolina Wren Eastern Bluebird American Robin Northern Mockingbird European Starling Yellow-rumped Warbler Song Sparrow White-crowned Sparrow Dark-eyed Junco Northern Cardinal Red-winged Blackbird Common Grackle American Goldfinch House Sparrow Dick & Jeanette Esker Wood County West Virginia [log in to unmask] ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
