I was over at Blacklick Woods Metro Park, Columbus OH yesterday, and while I originally went over there for Warblers, I am always open to plans changing on a dime. The Warblers and other birds were good over there, which has already been reported, but as I was leaving the Nature center, I just happened to glance over at the evergreens and there on one of the branches for everyone to see was one of their Barred Owls. It literally looked like a stump on a log or in this case branch. If it weren't for my brain smacking me and saying that a stump did not belong on a branch, I would have passed it by altogether. I was able to get a few shots off before the local crows spotted it, and started harassing it. It stayed for a little longer and then hid into the evergreen, later it flew to another, and was joined by another to have a battle royal with the crows...unfortunately I had to leave for work, so I didn't see the end of it. :-( That was the best of my day...and the way the rain looks, my weekend. :-D We'll see, tomorrow I might try over at Lawrence Woods in Kenton again to see if any Warblers have come to the pond.
