Although the location of rare birds is of great interest to many of those using this ListServe, including ourselves, it should not be the only function of the ListServe. For example, the reports of Columbus area birders providing lists of the uncommon and not so uncommon birds at various sites in the area are quite helpful in keeping up with local bird activity and selecting where to go birding, especially for those with limited time to bird, those new to the area, and those new to birding. Although reports of first of the year or backyard birds are of less general interest, good judgment could keep these posts at a reasonable number. Since this only seems to be a problem during the few weeks of high migration, perhaps listings in excess of 50 per day could be allowed during this short period of the year. Alternatively, if listings continue to grow in number, the upper limit for listings could be increased above 50, or there could be one list for rare birds only and another for reports of birds at various locations.
