As I was leaving today, I saw two Lark Sparrows on the east side of the
Student Services building. One of them broke into song after it fled to
a nearby oak. Both these birds are close to the building and very
skittish - unfortunately so is security. Fortunately, you can get good
looks without binos and therefore without appearing "suspicious". The
white lateral tail feathers together with their air-skipping flight
pattern gives them away.

I know campus isn't very accessible unless you are an employee or
student but it might be worthwhile to check out area parks for more of
these attractive birds.

I also made a quick stop at CVNP at a little parking area off of Canal
Rd. immediately south of Alexander Rd. where I saw a female turkey
stroll leisurely across the road. A quick survey of the area turned up a
pair of swamp sparrows setting up shop.
