3:30 today at Boat launch 46*, drizzle for 10 min, light wind from the east Grassy area between parking lot and Dike 14 Gulls Herring - all 8 at edge of shore Ring-billed - 60+ Turkey Vultures - 3 (munching on the fish among the gulls) Mallards - 3 In the water/air from launch north to the breakwall's point eastward into open water to the shore of Dike 14 to the southeast corner of the bay and back to the launch Red-breasted Mergansers - 125+ Great Crested Cormorants - 10+ Blue Winger Teal - 3 American Coots - 1 The following were either on the shore of Dike 14 or in the trees right along the shore Great Blue Herons - 24 Great Egrets - 7 At 3:45 I headed over to the west side of the Inner City Yacht Club - the following was seen from the dock area all the way north to the breakwall Horned Grebes - 4 Mallards - 4 Canada Geese - 6 (2 on nests for over a week now) Mute Swan - 1 On the dockes were 50-ish Gulls (more Herring gulls than lately (4:1 RB:H today) In the Northeast corner where the breakwall curves northward (and creates a nice little bay) were these jewels today - Horned Grebes - 11 American Coots - 4 Lesser Scaup - 6 Belted Kingfisher - 1 (fishing too!) Eared Grebe - 1 Ruddy Ducks - 7 (BEAUTIFUL colors!) 3:55 - 4:00 look at open water north of breakwall - not as much out there today 60+ RBMs 20+ GCCs less than 50 gulls Head back to talk with another binoculared person by launch - we found the following - Bufflehead - 3 Hooded Merganser - 1 Northern Shovelers - 4 Wood Duck - Eared Grebe - 1 American Coot - 5 buster on the road i saw a "kettle" of 8 Turkey Vultures just west of Eddy Rd over I-90 heading south ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
