Greetings all - I buzzed out to inner Huron Co., this evening, in search of Smith's Longspur-type habitat. Many decent corn stubble fields were found around the Willard Marsh Wildlife Area, just south of Route 224 (runs east/west). On WEISS ROAD, I had 44 GREATER YELLOWLEGS (forty-four) and 21 Lesser Yellowlegs, plus 8 Pectoral Sandpipers, a handful of Tree and Barn Swallows, American Pipit, Horned Lark, and Northern Shoveler and Blue-winged Teal. Weiss Road runs north-south. Just west of the town of Willard, while on Route 224, turn south on Vernon Road. Vernon deadends at Bullhead Road. Turn right (west) on Bullhead, go around a curve, and Bullhead turns into Weiss. Continue down Weiss 1/4 mile, over a drainage ditch, and on either side of the road you'll see flooded fields/mudflats. A good number of American Kestrels (8) along 224, between Lodi and Willard. best of birdingJen Jen Brumfield [log in to unmask] Cleveland, Ohio 330-701-6452 ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
