Several highlights from different parks today. Stopped at Lost Bridge, Kilby Rd, Miami Whitewater Forest & Wetlands, & Fernald. Highlights: First and foremost a PAIR of BELL'S VIREOS at Kilby Rd on the side of the street where the tan shed is. Walk to the crest of the hill & turn right where you will follow a line of trees. Walk all the way to the end & these 2 birds were flying back & forth amongst the sapling Locust Trees. Very good chance they will end up breeding due to behavior. Definitely worth keeping an eye on. Also 2 Common Loons still in the gravel pit. Blue Grosbeak & Grasshopper Sparrows were other notable birds here. Miami Whitewater Wetlands: Heard at least 3 AMERICAN BITTERNS & 1 LEAST BITTERN pumping out in the cattails. They seemed to be concentrated in the cattails around the dike leading to the gazebo. Fernald: Shorebirds habitat is excellent at the Biowetland right now. A flock of about 40 of both species of Dowitchers flew in & out while I was there. They may still be around as they were very skittish coming & going the entire time. 2 Semipalmated Plovers, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, 3 Least Sandpipers, 2 Semipalmated Sandpipers, & 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS. Other highlights included 2 previously reported Blue Grosbeaks at Lodge Pond, & several Dickcissels. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
