Kate-- Actually many years of records from the state show that white-crowned sparrows are common in Ohio into mid-May, then rare even into the first week of June. Very rarely they have even nested in the state. This is reflected in the Ohio Bird Records Committee Annotated Checklist which Paul mentioned in the case of the red-breasted nuthatch a couple of hours ago. An earlier on-line version is available at http://www.ohiobirds.org/publications/OBRClist.pdf and a newer one is for sale at various locations. Peterjohn's "The Birds of Ohio" has similar things to say. Particular conditions in your locality may not allow them to persist as long as they do on average statewide.
