After attending another of the many fine evening programs at Ottawa NWR offered during the Biggest Week in American Birding (Ken Behrens program "Seawatching: Cutting Edge Birding" repeats later this week: check the schedule on the BWIAM website), I headed to Metzger Marsh. At trailhead for the wooded marsh walk, at the first small pulloff on the right paralleling the initial section of canal past the CCYC building, I could hear an American Bittern calling. While walking a short section of the trail into the marsh, I had a flyover Sandhill Crane. This is the location where the "tame" Wild Turkey was seen over the last several days (but I did not observe the turkey today). This pulloff is 'before' the final big turn, so if you are heading directly toward the beach you have missed the trailhead. FYI: There are several late morning, late afternoon, and early evening programs highlighted on the BWIAB website. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
