Greetings all - A quick mid-morning stop at Wendy Park on the immediate west side of Cleveland (by Whiskey Island Marina; this is just the east of Edgewater State Park) turned up a LOAD of good birds and birding in a tiny, tiny wooded patch. I can't emphasize enough that this is a small woodlot, making for incredible views. Highlights included a single AMERICAN BITTERN that flushed from the woodlot, no less than 25 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 5 Yellow-bellied Flycatchers (offering point blank views), 4 Least Flycatchers, 2 Eastern Wood-Pewees, and 7 Swainson's Thrushes. Eleven (11) species of warblers included highlights of single MOURNING and Canada Warblers, excellent numbers of American Redstarts for the "space" : 20+, a dozen Magnolias, 5 Black-throated Blue Warblers, a dozen Common Yellowthroats, 4 Chestnut-sided Warblers, and 3 Ovenbirds. Wendy Park is an excellent stop (throughout the year) to make while working the Cleveland area lakefront. best of birding -Jen Jen Brumfield [log in to unmask] Cleveland, Ohio 330-701-6452 ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
