Sharp-eyed naturalist Debra Shankland first spotted a flock of CATTLE EGRETS at the Southerly Waste water Treatment Plant in Cuyahoga Heights OH on a bus field trip at 4PM this afternoon. I returned shortly after to photograph a flock of 28 cattle egrets, located where Canal Road turns into East 49th Street (Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation, Cleveland Metroparks). The egrets were on the property of the SWWTP (Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District) apparently picking insects in a grassy field inside the fence, which was being mowed this morning. Photos will be posted on the Cleveland Metroparks Facebook page later this evening.
