Even before dawn the Cassin's Sparrow was performing his beautiful aerial display flights accompanied by his singing on Kaser Road in Shelby County this morning. Many times the flight took him across the road, north to south and back again. Sometimes he even landed on the side of the road, giving us good views. He also used the post with the orange cap extensively, singing from it when he wasn't flying. It seemed central to his territory. Thanks, Doug, for finding this bird and giving us this first experience of a territorial Cassin's Sparrow! ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
