Greetings all -
A brief post in request for any locations in NW Ohio, in particular, that are currently sporting good/fair shorebird habitat. Has anyone visited the Bellevue area (that flooded several years ago and sported two pairs of stilts and hundreds of shorebirds)? Is Pipe Creek looking good? How about Pickerel Creek/Willow Point? Is there any habitat in public access areas surrounding Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge?
Thanks to all that respond.
Meanwhile, a few interesting local sightings. My father and I conducted the summer bird count (Greater Akron region), on city-owned property surrounding Barberton Reservoir (Summit County, Copley/Barberton area). Among the 62 species we found, 17 Veeries was a an excellent spot-count, as was 18 Hooded Warblers (one nest located, unfortunately holding a cowbird nestling), plus Pine, Yellow-throated and Prothonotary Warblers. Four Red-breasted Nuthatches outnumbered the two White-breasted recorded for the day.
best of birding, and thanks again for any replies (yay or nay) on shorebird habitat in northern Ohio. JB
