The variety of straggling waterfowl at Lorain Impoundment this summer season has, to me, been staggering. Quickly, I should note, that often wary local moorhen was quite visible today towards the northwest corner. But back to the ducks...two new species were added today for the month of June - Red-breasted Merganser and Wood Duck, and to put this in context here is the complete waterfowl species list for the location during the month of June (to date): Canada Goose Mute Swan Wood Duck Gadwall American Wigeon American Black Duck Mallard Blue-winged Teal Northern Shoveler Green-winged Teal Greater Scaup Lesser Sacup Hooded Merganser Red-breasted Merganser Ruddy Duck American Coot Common Moorhen Most notable today was a coot trailed by four young...I'm hopeful that at least a pair of Ruddys has chosen to breed at this site, as well. We shall see... - Gabe Leidy Sheffield Lake ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
