The coming weeks hold great opportunities to see great breeding birds in Ohio and contribute important information to the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II. OBBA II is a 6-year effort to map the breeding birds of Ohio and we have a long way to go in our final field season. Please, we need your help!! Anyone can contribute, whether you are new to birding or not, no matter where you live in Ohio. The last 7 days alone have turned up reports of 140 species of breeding birds, including 20 species of warblers (Canada, Chestnut-sided, Cerulean, and more!), Least Bittern, Sandhill Crane, and Red-headed Woodpecker. It's also a great time to look and listen for Sedge Wren in grassy areas. That said, records for far more common species are needed from all over the state. Please make plans to get to the forest, fields, wetlands, agricultural lands, and even habitats in urban areas in the coming days and weeks. All that we need from you is a species found, the date, and a specific location to make use of your records. If possible, try to seek out areas/blocks with lower numbers of species. For more information, please visit our website: http://www.ohiobirds.org/obba2/ You'll get more time out-of-doors and can contribute important data to the effort. Thanks!!
