Late Saturday morning, I drove to several areas SE of Wooster to see if any shorebirds were about. At the Funk observation platform, there were two solitary and two spotted sandpipers along the shore of the pond, plus the usual great blue herons and Canada geese. In the ponds along Wilderness Rd there were a group of at least 20 killdeers, one solitary sandpiper and a peep I did not see well, plus lots of geese and great blue herons and several cormorants. An immature bald eagle was perched on one island. I then drove over to the Killbuck WA and along Valley Rd. and east on Clark Rd. Just as Helen Ostermiller reported yesterday, I saw three solitary, one spotted and two least sandpipers foraging on the algal mat easily visible from Clark Rd. In addition, I saw one common egret, two eastern kingbirds and several redwings. I heard common yellowthroat and white-eyed vireo along Valley Rd.
