The mudflat west of the observation tower continued to put on a good show of rails, while a Least Bittern put on a show at the footbridge over the marsh for the early part of that time period. Later, 1-2 more Least Bittern flew down the marshy slough from the tower. Add in the good mix of other marsh birds, and it was a great spot to while away an hour or so. The list included: Mallards - 50+ Blue-winged Teal - female with 3 large ducklings Pied-billed Grebes - 1 adult, 3+ large juveniles American Coot - adult, 3+ juveniles Virginia rail - 8+, mostly west of the tower Sora - 3-4, all west of the tower Least Bittern - 2-3, all east of the tower Kildeer - 10+ Spotted Sandpiper - 2 Solitary Sandpiper - 2 Swallows - mostly Tree, but also had Barn, Cliff, Bank, & Rough-winged Marsh Wren - 1-2 singing ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
