A quick hike around this southeast Columbus MetroPark found typical summer species with 1 addition. A male Kentucky Warbler, unusual this close to urban Columbus, has taken up residence along the Beech-Maple loop trail. The only reliable local area for this species are at Blendon Woods and the Terrace Trail of Battelle-Darby, but there have been an influx of birds to different sites this year. On my way back for there, I stopped at Big Walnut Park and was rewarded with a family of E.Kingbirds, another rare local breeder. They've been resident of the small island in the park pond for several years, but I hadn't seen fledgelings here before. TThis species has also been displaced by urbanization here, so that there are few breeders left in Franklin County. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
