I was at Conneaut on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Not a huge number of shorebirds present, but a nice variety. The highlight on Saturday was 4 Willets that arrived early but unfortunately left before most of the other birders arrived. The highlights from Sunday were a single Avocet and Whimbrel. The Avocet was present at daybreak and was still present when I left at 11:00am. This bird was feeding and resting the whole time and seemed totally unfazed by the surrounding activity. The Whimbrel flew in around 10:40am, or about 10 minutes after all the other birders had left (sorry about that JH & BG). The bird stayed on the ground no more than 2 minutes before departing. The combined tally for both days was 15 species of shorebirds: Killdeer Semipalmated Plover Black Bellied Plover - 1 each on Sat & Sun Least Sandpiper Semipalmated Sandpiper Pectoral Sandpiper Stilt Sandpiper Spotted Sandpiper Sanderling Ruddy Turnstone SB Dowitcher Lesser Yellowlegs Willet Avocet Whimbrel Bob Krajeski Ashtabula Co.
