Today, the Darke County Birders worked on a few OBBAII blocks in Darke County. One place we checked out for shore birds was the private wetland that I call Woods Road Wetland. There we found 5 great blue herons 3 lesser yellowlegs 1 short billed dowitcher 1 least sandpiper 3 possible Baird's (straight bills, more than just a little bigger than the least, primaries longer than tail, tail appeared dark) 1 kestrel 3 tree swallows At Coppess Nature Preserve a fledged downy giant swallowtail butterfly At Winterrowd Wetland Vesper sparrow feeding a fledgling FLedgling willow flycatcher great spangled frittilary butterfly Along the road, we also found fledgling Baltimore oriole, dickcissel, robin, and redtail hawk. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
