I trip to these 2 downtown Columbus parks found only a modest fallout of migrants this morning, despite promising weather conditions. Scioto had only a few mixed migrant flocks, the best being in the meadow NW of the Grange center. Berliner was not much different. The Scioto River level continues to be high, discouraging much in the way of shorebirds or other waders. Notables included: Cormorants - small #s all along the river, often perched on snags Egrets - at least 5 Great Egrets were along the shore of the bay off the boat launch above the dam Yellow-billed Cuckoo - at least 1 was along the bike trail through the riparian woods in Berliner Woodpeckers - surprisingly diverse for a spot that usually only has Downies - today had Red-bellies, Harries, & Flickers Flycatchers - still scarce, with 1 Phoebe around the boat launch and a Pewee in Berliner Swallows - a few Rough-wings were at several locations along the river Vireos - the only one was a White-eyed along the bikepath in Scioto Thrushes - lots of overflying Robins, but only a few Swainson's on the ground Mimids - Catbirds everywhere, but also had Mockingbird & Brown Thrasher in fields north of Grange Center Warblers - only 10 species, mostly boreal conifer warblers - Parula (2), Tennessee (3), Magnolia (3), CapeMay (2), Black-thr.Green (4), Blackburnian (2), Blackpoll (4), Bay-breasted (2), Redstart (2), Ovenbird. Buntings,Grosbeaks - 6-8 Indigo Buntings, mostly in fields north of Grange Center. 1 calling Rose-br.Grosbeak in the meadow NW of Center Sparrows - surprisingly slim pickings, with only a handful of Chipping and Songs Blackbirds - also fairly low, with only a few flyover Redwings and Grackles. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
