first venture to Conneaut Sandspit (definatel twon't be my last) 72* light breeze from west/slightly south 11:00 arrive @ Conneaut boat launch where we (me and 2 of my former 7th grade cleve school students - ernest and Q) started our walk out to the beach. in the bay from the launch west until the end of the bay we saw Pied-billed Grebes - 2 Belted Kingfishers - 2 Great Blue Herons - 5 Wood Ducks - 4 Canada Geese - 20+ Mallards - 30+ Blue-winged Teal - 4 Bald Eagle - 1 (imm) Killdeer - 2 we arrived at the bay inside the breakwall @ 11:40. there was a flock of gulls that contained the following Ring Bills - 200-ish Herrings - 10-ish Caspian Tern - 1 farther east up the beach near the "interior bay" we identifiesd the following either on/above said part of beach or in the "bay" 200+ Ring Bills 20+ Herrings 50+ Bonaparte's 30-ish Caspians 10-ish Forster's Sanderlings - 4 Great Blue Herons - 6 Green Heron - 1 Double-cresred Cormorants - 2 Blue-winged Teal - 2 Semipalmated Plovers - 5 Semipalmated Sandpiper - 1 Least Sandpipers - 3 Avoset - 1 Bald Eagles - 7 (all seen at one time!) 2 adults and 5 imms munching together on the breakwall!! seen in the same bino field was cool!!! THANKS to Jerry Talkington and Susan (and Bill) for helping with the IDs and sharing the scope! leave at 1:30 we decided to give Headlands a quick check on the way home after driving thru quite a rain arrived at 2:30 - 76* same wind as Conneaut walk started of Buckeye Trail marker out to the breakwall back the path to the gate, out to fisherman's path back to parking lot - 1 1/2 hour walk Magnolia - 6, House Wren - 1 Song Sparrow - 2 Great-crested Flycatcher - 2 Solitary Sandpiper - 1 Flicker - 1 Catbird - 1 Baltimore Oriole - 1 buster ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
