One red-necked grebe at Clear Fork reservoir this morning, near the dam.
There is a parking lot at the northeast corner of the reservoir, just north
of the dam, along Lexington-Ontario Road. If the r. n. grebe is not seen
from this location, drive south along Lexington-Ontario Road for 20 feet,
take a right turn onto Gass Road, which goes below the spillway. When Gass
Road intersects Route 97, take a right turn. Continue on rt. 97 for ~ 1/4
mile until there is a pull-off along the hiway, across the road from a
pond, and at the first curve. Park at this rt. 97 pull-off and walk a short
distance to the water's edge. From here, a person can 'scope toward the dam
and toward the southeast corner of the reservoir. The extreme southeast
corner of the reservoir can not be seen from the Lexington-Ontario rd.
parking lot. The r. n. grebe is seen in the area ~ 1/4 mile west of the
dam, to the southeast corner of the reservoir.
*CAUTION: *The area just east of the pull-off along rt. 97, to Gass rd.,
and the dam itself are NO TRESPASSING areas. There are policemen at Clear
Fork that patrol the area. I believe there is a small no trespassing sign
on a post at the eastern edge of the rt. 97 pull-off area.
Good luck,
John Herman
