Part of that group of Cormorants must have been what was flying overhead yesterday evening over at East Liberty. :-D I had well over a hundred of them go overhead over at the Honda Plant in East Liberty. At first I thought that they were ducks, but when I got my glasses on them, they were much bigger than ducks, and the wings were all wrong. and they were too dark to be geese. ;-D It's good to see that the reservoir is starting to attract a variety of birds. The highlight was a MERLIN seen flying from west to east over the parking area. It didn't slow down, but kept going as far as I could follow it with the scope. Also seen were 2 migrating COMMON LOONS, about 450 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS (in 3 groups), and 2 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS. I then stopped at the reservoir on Raymond Road, just north of Marysville. I was surprised to find a nice collection of water birds, including 20 HORNED GREBES, 15 TUNDRA SWANS, 6 REDHEADS, LESSER SCAUP, RING-NECKED DUCK, GADWALL, 2 BUFFLEHEAD, and 12 BONAPARTE'S GULLS. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has birded this reservoir, it seems like it could be very productive. > > Blake Mathys > http://blakemathys.com/ > > Glacier Ridge Metro Park--Honda Wetlands, Union County > > Mallard 14 > Green-winged Teal 1 > Common Loon 2 > Double-crested Cormorant 450 > Turkey Vulture > Red-tailed Hawk > Merlin 1 > American Coot 2 > Rock Pigeon > Red-bellied Woodpecker > Downy Woodpecker > American Crow > Carolina Chickadee > Tufted Titmouse > Eastern Bluebird 15 > American Robin > European Starling > American Tree Sparrow 2 > Field Sparrow > Song Sparrow > Swamp Sparrow > White-crowned Sparrow > Dark-eyed Junco > Northern Cardinal > Red-winged Blackbird > Common Grackle > American Goldfinch > > Marysville Reservoir - Raymond Rd., Union County > > Canada Goose 5 > Tundra Swan 15 > Gadwall 20 > Redhead 6 > Ring-necked Duck 10 > Lesser Scaup 15 > Bufflehead 2 > Ruddy Duck 15 > Horned Grebe 20 > Red-tailed Hawk > American Coot 8 > Bonaparte's Gull 12 > Ring-billed Gull 2 > Blue Jay > > ______________________________________________________________________ > > Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society. > Our thanks to Miami University for hosting this mailing list. > Additional discussions can be found in our forums, at www.ohiobirds.org/forum/. > > You can join or leave the list, or change your options, at: > http://listserv.muohio.edu/scripts/wa.exe?LIST=OHIO-BIRDS > Send questions or comments about the list to: [log in to unmask] > ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
