After some early morning steelhead fishing on the Ashtabula River, I stopped at the harbor area about 1pm. At Point C, looking north, I saw the snowy owl on the ground in a weedy area at the west edge of the channel just above the rip rap on the shore. It was at some distance, but readily visible with a scope. I watched it for about 10 minutes and it was quite alert, constantly turning its head around looking in various directions. That was a great sighting for me, since I have not seen one in many years. There were very few gulls about at that time, so I did not see the black-tailed gull, nor did I see any Canada Geese or associated Ross' Goose. I also did not see a single other birder, but it was a very rainy day.
