I also spent some time birding around Columbus today, but mostly in southern Franklin Co. A few highlights: - 6 CHIPPING SPARROWS along the east shore of Griggs Reservoir at the Fishinger Rd. bridge mixed in with a large flock of juncos including, - 1 "Cassiar" junco, - 1 male Merlin in a tree at 1375 Dublin Rd. (seen twice today, and presumably the same bird seen there on 26 December), - Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Brown-headed Cowbird and lots of junco diversity in Greenlawn Cemetery (no luck searching for siskins), - and the previously reported 3rd year GLAUCOUS GULL at the SWACO landfill. A few photos (6 chippies, "Cassiar" junco, the merlin and the cowbird) are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/pauljhurtado A SNOWY OWL was reported to have been seen around 3pm along the north side of 665 (aka London Groveport Rd) somewhere near Grove City (presumably west of the landfill). Something to look for if you're in the area tomorrow! Lastly, last night as it was starting to get dark, I saw a Peregrine heading north over the medical center buildings towards the stadium -- perhaps the same bird Andy reported? If so, perhaps one is roosting at the stadium or at least spending some time over the OSU campus.
