2 Jan 2012 Besides the Yellow-headed Blackbird I posted about separately, the other highlight of my birding today was finding a huge, almost pure flock of Rusty Blackbirds in a different location on the southeast side of Franklin Co. Scoping them in the field, I could tell there was a pretty even mix of males and females. When they streamed over the road, I counted/estimated about 2650 Rusties. This has to be an order of magnitude more Rusties than I've ever seen at once in my life. I would not have expected this to happen in Franklin County in January. The birds streamed to the southwest following the Alum Creek riparian corridor. ebird checklist for this observation: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S9477656 Good birding, Dave Slager Columbus, Ohio ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
