Things were really slow along the lake at my house so I headed into Ashtabula County. First stop was Ashtabula Harbor. I stopped at the bridge area and almost immediately had the BLACK-TAILED GULL. It was sitting with about a hundred other gulls out in the railroad yard. It was facing me the entire time. The only good look I had was when a herring gull landed next to it and it flew up and came down allowing a nice look. The SNOWY OWL was also easily visible sitting between the rails of some train tracks. While watching a yellow-bellied sapsucker flew by heading east. There were very few gulls in the harbor. The gulls it was sitting with, a couple hundred up the river and a few dozen on the roofs. Only other gull of note was an adult lesser black-backed gull. Also of note in Ashtabula was a peregrine flying in the industrial area south of the two power plants. A MERLIN was observed along the lakeshore about a mile east of the power plants. Conneaut had very few gulls and waterfowl. There was however a PURPLE SANDPIPER on the west breakwall. It was in there where there is a bend in the breakwall. There were also two dunlin on the mudflat. Little else was found. Songbirds seemed to be sitting tight due to the rain and wind.
