Hi all,

Ryan Steiner and I started at the usual Ashtabula Black-tailed Gull viewing sites at 8am
this morning. A small group searched the area until Bret McCarty spotted it
near the marina at 10am. Also present was an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull but no Snowy Owl.

We continued west to Fairport Harbor which yielding nothing
apart from the usual gulls, mergansers and goldeneye and Headland’s wasn’t any
better. A few hundred Bonaparte’s were working the water near the lighthouse
which could eventually turn up a Little.

Next stop was East 72nd St. where Scott
Albaugh earlier posted about the Long-tailed
Duck, which was easily relocated near the water outlet amongst all the Red-breasted
Mergansers – a female. Other waterfowl between here and 55th include
both mergansers, Lesser Scaup, Buffleheads and Mallards.

Last stop was a quick search for Snowy Owl at Burke to no
avail, however a Short-eared Owl was
spooked up while a airport vehicle was doing its rounds landing near sign “12”.
Apparently up to 4 or more have been hanging around Burke
recently.
