A flock of 12 white-winged crossbills were found today at Lake Metropark's Girdled Road Reservation in Concord Twp., Lake County. The birds were seen feeding in a hemlock stand in the middle of the park along Big Creek. They fed in some hemlocks east of the creek along a steep cliff. After a while they flew across the creek where there are more hemlocks. To get to this park check out www.lakemetroparks.com . There is a printable trail map on the site. The birds were along the Buckeye Trail which can be accessed from either the north or south entrances. It is a bit of a walk from either way you go. The exact site is by the picnic table that is along the trail and creek. I also found a BROWN THRASHER at the same park. It was in a brushy area in the northwest corner of the property.
