Hi,

Jen is correct that shape and proportions are very good clues
to separating Bald and Golden Eagles.  Head size is most useful.  A Bald
Eagle's head will extend in front of the wing 2 3rds the length of the
tail.  A Golden Eagle's head will only extend forward of the wings about 1
3rd the length of the tail.  Learn to look for this first and then plumage
clues as secondary characteristics on flying eagles.
