All guests are welcome to the Delaware County Bird Club meetings and program presentations take place on the fourth Monday of each month, September through April. Please join us in the City of Delaware at the Ohio Wesleyan University, Schimmel- Conrades Science Center, Room 163. Conversation and refreshments begin at 7:00 PM; the meetings and programs start at 7:30 PM. Parking is available next to the Selby Stadium on the east side of Henry Street and in the lot south of the Science Center next to Branch Rickey Arena. February 27th: "Racing Pigeons: What It Involves and What We Have Learned From Them About Wild Birds" - Rich Bradley, PhD., Associate Professor. Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology, The Ohio State University. Rich will start with a general introduction to domestic pigeons, including their life cycle, and a short history of the importance of pigeons as messengers will be presented. The "racing pigeon breed" will be described and a few live pigeons will be on hand. The basics of the sport of racing pigeons including breeding, training, feeding and racing will be illustrated with photos and movies. Dr. Richard Bradley has authored 25 scientific publications as well as numerous popular articles and one book "In Ohio's Backyard: Spiders." Dr. Bradley is currently an Associate Professor at the Ohio State University, Department of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology. Current research focuses on spider population biology, biodiversity assessment, sampling, patterns of biogeography of spiders.
