A little while age I was driving down Lazelle Rd. when three swans on the
pond near the northeast corner of Sancus and Lazelle caught my eye.
Iexpected to see two because a pair of mute swans has been hanging out in
the area. I thought one of them looked like it had a black bill so I
pulled into the driveway of Autozone to get a closer look. Sure enough it
was a trumpeter swan. There seemed to be a turf war going on between the
two species. This is the second time recently that I have seen trumpeter
swans in the Columbus area. Are they expanding their range southward?
The only ducks and geese on the pond were mallards and Canada geese.
