Cindy Host and I visited The Wilds yesterday. Besides the singing of the Spring Peppers and Chorus frogs there was a good section of birds. We were following a male Harrier and spotted a large raptor in a tree along a tree line. The raptor went after the Harriwer. It was the Golden Eagle. After the Harrier left the area, the Golden Eagle ascended to a great height. The Golden Eagle suddenly drove and appeared to be chasing an E Meadowlark. The Meadowlark veered off to the left and escaped from the Eagle. Around 2:30 a Short-eared Owl flew over our head It was so close it was too close to get the whole bird in a binocular view. Around 7:10 we spotted a Short-eared owl on a fence post. When we got out of the car we heard a Woodcock on the hilltop. We went up there and could not find the Woodcock, but we had 9 Short-eared Owls flying around us.
