Hello all,
I volunteered at Highbanks Metro Park yesterday and spent most of my time out in the wetland area checking out the placement of some of our new bluebird boxes to prepare them for the nesting season. I saw 2 pairs of E. Bluebirds displaying and sitting atop a few different boxes. There were several tree swallows swooping and also sitting on boxes. There were quite a few Field Sparrows singing as well as Red-wing Blackbirds. Found a male E. Towhee calling in a treetop. Out on the water there were a 2 pairs of Am. Wigeon, 5 Ring-neck Ducks, a pair of Bufflehead, a pair of Woodducks, many Mallards and Canada Geese. The Bald Eagles nesting at the Overlook deck are still sitting tight on their nest and as always, I got to the overlook just a few minutes after they had a "shift change" :) We anticipate that we may see behaviors indicating hatch as early as next week.
