I took a brief walk through the northern part of this park yesterday afternoon. Sings of spring were quite apparent (even outside of the high temperature). Highlights included:
Purple Martin- 2 "scouts" we're foraging over the fields with the swallows. First i have heard of this year in Ohio
Tree swallow- almost every box had a male circling or sitting on it.
E meadowlark- upward of 30 birds were singing in the area
Rusty blackbird- 2 were mixed in with the other blackbird flocks, singing like crazy

I haven't seen or heard the barred owls or red-shouldered hawks that usually nest nearby. Has anyone else seen them recently?

Also, the Metroparks mowed the fields in this area- I assume to simulate a burn. Hopefully the henslow's sparrows will return to this area- they were quite common here last year.

Good birding,
Steve Landes
