While doing reconnaissance birding ahead of a field trip next weekend, I found a Ross's Goose yesterday afternoon just outside Killdeer Plains. The bird was with several dozen Canada Geese in flooded fields just southwest of the corner of Routes CH-77 and TH-103. The spot is across the road from a group of large buildings (egg farm?).

Also seen at Killdeer: Northern Harriers, American Kestrels, Red-tailed Hawks, Ring-necked Ducks, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Bufflehead, Belted Kingfisher, Eastern Meadowlark, Red-winged Blackbirds, Common Grackles, and American Tree Sparrows. Waited for a Short-eared Owl until well after dark without success.

Good birding.
