At about 3:30PM this afternoon, the Shreve Fish Pond, as it is called by local birders, was alive with avian activity. The double highlight was a remarkable 146+ Pectoral Sandpipers and 25 Great Egrets. Presently the impoundment is mostly a massive mudflat with a little bit of water. The other bird species in "The Bowl" were 2 Dunlins, 7 Lesser Yellowlegs, 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Killdeer, 12 Green-winged Teal, 9 Great Blue Herons, and 2 Mallards. The location is the southwest corner of SR226 and Kister Road, northeast of the town of Shreve, and opposite Wright Marsh at Killbuck Wildlife Area in Wayne County.
