Hi: My wife and I spent the afternoon in Medina Co. at Spencer Lake wildlife area and Chippewa Nature Preserve, just north of Chippewa Lake. At Spencer Lake, we had two loons on the lake, plus three horned grebes in breeding plumage, 8-10 each of bufflehead, lesser scaup and ruddy ducks. If you are interested in wildflowers, there are spectacular and extensive masses of Trilliium now in the woods surrounding the lake. At Chippewa NP, there were small numbers of wood ducks, mallards, blue-winged teal, green-winged teal, shovelers, Canada geese and one Am. wigeon. We also saw two rusty blackbird males feeding in shallow water at the edge of the marsh. We had 33 species for the afternoon. Beautiful day to be afield.
