After a wet start to banding today for the biology classes of Carey HS, we had a good day of bird study. We banded or observed Hooded warbler, Orange crowned warbler, Sora rail, Virginia rail, Ruby-crowned kinglet (all females), Hermit thrush, Warbling vireo, Wood thrush, and many of the other usual suspects. Thanks to Tom Bartlett and Ron Minard et al for getting up early and exposing some HS students to migration. Most were very interested and excited about species they never even knew existed.
