I stopped at these two riverfront parks in Columbus this morning, along with nearby Long Street dam, and had a good fallout of migrants, mostly temperate migrants. The White-throated Sparrows and Yellow-rumped Warblers were thick at most spots, and it required some work to look through them for other birds. Highlights included Great Egrets - 4 flying north over Scioto Cormorants - 4-5 still fishing in the river above the dam Raptors - good morning for residents, with Cooper's, Peregrine, Red-tailed all putting in an appearance Osprey - 1 bird building a nest, not in the set-up platform at Scioto, but in an old light pole in the old impound lot. Sapsuckers - 5 over the course of the morning, with 1-2 at each spot Vireos - 1-2 singing Warbling at every stop, but more unusual was a singing FOS Yellow-throated near the Grange Audubon Center Winter Wren - 1 late bird was still along the bikepath in Berliner Park Kinglets - 5-6 Ruby-crowns over the course of the morning, along with 1 late Golden-crown still at Berliner Gnatcatchers - good #s, with 4-6 at every stop Thrushes - a FOS Wood Thrush was singing at Long Street dam, while 1-2 Hermits were at Berliner Park Brown Thrashers - 3 were singing at different spots in Scioto Horned Lark - a single bird was attracted to the open dirt northeast of the Audubon Center Parula Warbler - 1 was singing at Long St dam riparian area Yellow-throated Warblers - 1-2 at every stop Yellow-rumped Warblers - lots, with 75-80 for the whole 3 hours Palm Warbler - 1 was at the Long St dam riparian area Pine Warblers - 2 were singing in the riparian woods along the Berliner bikepath Hooded Warbler - 1 was singing around the edge of the meadow at Scioto Field Sparrows - good #s, with 20+ over the 3 hours, mostly in the meadow and fields of Scioto Chipping Sparrows - 16-20 scattered between all the sites.
