Three of us drove to Kiser Lake in western Champaign County north of St. Paris to look for the Black-necked Stilts. We didn't find any. We did see a number of birds including 7 Lesser Yellowlegs, Barn, Tree, and Northern Rough-winged Swallows, Blue-winged Teal, Northern Shovelers, Pied-billed Grebes, and 5 species of sparrows. Then we drove to Davey Woods which is just a few miles southeast. We found a Louisiana Waterthrush and a Barred Owl but the strangest sighting was a pair of Trumpeter Swans. I heard a Trumpeter Swan call and we all looked up as two of them flew over. I have no idea where they were coming from or going to.
