Great day to be out in the field. The Lorain Impoundment and Harbor hosted Caspian Terns, Bonaparte Gulls (some approaching breeding plumage), L Yellowlegs, Shovelers, GW Teal, L and G Scaup Redheads, Great and Lesser Black-backed Gulls, RB Mergs, Belted Kingfisher, Coots, DC Cormorants, Ruddys, C Loons (in full breeding plumage) and Horned Grebes (1 in full breeding plumage)just to name a few. I also noticed great numbers of Turkey Vultures pushing through today. The area of French Creek that I hiked today was a bit quiet...not much unusual to report. There was a nice Cooper's Hawk that put on a good show for me. Sandy Ridge Reservation had quite a bit of diversity. Canada Geese nesting and hissing as people shuffled by. I was fortunate enough to find 4 Wilson's Snipe resting on one of the islands. 2 Lesser Yellowlegs and 1 Greater Yellowlegs were present. Scoping from the elevated observation area it was great to find a single DUNLIN feeding on the muddy bank. The Dunlin was starting to show a few dark feathers on it's chest. Scaup, Mute Swans, GW Teal, Shovelers, handsome Wood Ducks, Ring-necked Ducks, Tree Swallows just to name a few. Spring migration seems to be getting in full swing!!! Best of birding to you. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
