The OSU Ornithology class birded Scioto Audubon again this morning, and turned up a few new birds that we did not see yesterday. Among the highlights (Numbers in parentheses): Spotted Sandpiper (2) and Solitary Sandpiper (2) - Foraging on the mudflats at both the tip and the base of the Whittier Peninsula. Caspian Tern (2) - Fishing above the Greenlawn Dam. At one point, one of them harassed a Herring Gull sitting on the water. Red-headed Woodpecker (1) - This bird made a reappearance today right by the Grange Insurance Audubon Center. We viewed it from just outside the center, on the top of the hill overlooking the bike path. Blue-winged Warbler (1) - Singing in the trees between the boat launch and the Greenlawn dam. In addition to these new highlights, we heard or saw greater numbers of Warbling Vireos and House Wrens than yesterday.
