Red headed woodpeckers eat cracked corn and sunflower chips. They also will chow down on earthworms. The red headed tended to eat one variety of seed and then fly to a perch either on a trunk or a branch and sit still for varied lengths of time. Then he would fly down and snack at the other feeder before finding another perch to rest up. Occasionally, searched the ground under the feeders for a snack. For fun, the red headed woodpecker likes to chase red bellied woodpeckers. No other species of bird seems to irritate the red headed, or at least merit the effort to chase it. The flicker and the pileated fed at the suet feeder and peanut butter log without the red headed reacting to them. But then, the red headed did not go to either of those feeders anytime in the three days it has been visiting. Drank water from the birdbath.
