A female Ruff was located this evening in Wright Marsh, Killbuck Wildlife
Area. Park off R226 in the small wildlife area lot a few miles south of
Wooster (from R30, take route 3 south a short distance to R226 south, then a
few more miles at most). Walk the gravel road leaving the lot east, then
northeast until you pass under the power lines, then begin looking in the
pool and flat areas to the west and north. The Ruff was reportedly
discovered Monday by Aaron Miller (hope I have the name right), then lost
until this evening at about 7:00 PM. Jackie and I found the group that found
the Ruff while we were looking at three White-faced Ibis we followed from
the east side. We left the Ruff in the same area at about 8:15 PM. Two
Short-billed Dowitchers with a single chunky Long-billed Dowitcher gave easy
close looks, too. A nice evening.

The Ruff closely resembled the Sibley illustration of breeding female with
loose floppy tertials, lanky and busy. We'll get a photo out there (it's
already on Jackie's Facebook wall).

Tom and Jackie Bain.
